The Paper Players – PP403 – A Sketch Challenge from Claire

We have a Sketch Challenge over at The Paper Players!  This week, our challenge host, Claire, is asking us to create cards using the sketch to the left on our cards.  I am not sure about everyone else but I find sketch challenges hard.  Perhaps it is how I go about tackling the sketch.  Usually I start with a stamp set I want to use and try to pull all the elements together from there.  However I usually stumble on the layering, I am not good with choosing papers.  I look at so many cardmakers and their patterned paper creations are wonderful!  I envy them their skill.  Practice makes better (maybe not perfect) so I continue to enter and toy with sketches. What type of challenges do you find the hardest?

For today’s card I started with the adorable MFT hula dancer (so cute!), stamped and copic colored.  My focus  patterned paper is a flamingo repeat design. The tag color pulled from the flamingo design and the sketch “lines” incorporated with washi tape,  The final touches were bits of coordinating ribbon and lots of translucent sequins.

Supplies: My Favorite Things Polynesian Paradise, W+9 Timeless Tags, Versafine Clair, Hero Arts embossing powder, Copics, Doodlebug flamingo paper, Pretty Pink Posh sequins, washi tape (stash), May Arts ribbon

How interesting Elizabeth – sketch challenges are my absolute favourite! I find using colours as a starting point more tricky, but agree with you that challenges of any kind are always a great place to start. Anyways, I adore that sweet hula girl and fun flamingo paper – you totally rocked this week’s sketch!

  2. Annie A. says:

Aloha, Elizabeth! Your little hula dancer is so cute and your papers and washi really made me wish I was in Hawaii! Hope you’re having a good week ~ Hugs, Annie

  3. Jan Clothier says:

This makes me think of the holiday we had in Hawaii. 🙂 Love that adorable flamingo paper and using washi tape for the horizontals was genius. No sign of a struggle as far as I can tell! The challenges I struggle with most often are 4 colour colour challenges. I always find it hard to integrate the fourth colour without it looking like I’ve just chucked it in to make up the number!

  4. Claire Broadwater says:

Elizabeth, your card is adorable! I absolutely love the papers you chose to accent your fabulous hula girl! You would never know you struggle with this. The washi tape looks amazing with the flamingo paper! Thanks for making my sketch shine! XX
