For me, this week’s FUSION challenge was all about trying a new technique. I have been seeing a lot of cards with alcohol ink backgrounds lately. I thought the technique would be perfect for the FUSION photo inspiration this week. I used Copic and Ranger alcohol ink refills, rubbing alcohol (with an eye dropper) and Yupo paper (my first time!). I made five backgrounds…just to practice different techniques. The “paper” (it is synthetic) dries quicker than I imagined. Clearly whether you decide to just drip ink on Yupo, or blow ink around with a straw, brush the ink across the paper, or dilute with rubbing alcohol, the looks are very different. On the piece I used for this card, I brushed the ink and then diluted with rubbing alcohol.
I die cut the leaves from a watercolored panel heavily painted in red and splattered with yellow, orange, green, metallic white and gold. I adhered the leaves, branch and sentiment to the Yupo panel with glossy accents. Lesson learned: glossy accent on Yupo is not optimal. I will have to investigate what others use as an adherent with Yupo. The glossy accents reacts with the ink on the paper. The final touch on the card was a few random gemstones.
