CASology Week 312: HEAL

CASology Week 312: HEAL

The keyword at CASology this week is HEAL.  Such an apt word for my return to card making.

Some cardmakers know my story, many don’t.  The DT at The Paper Players have been hugely supportive over the last 7 months, and I can’t thank them enough for encouraging me to stay involved, one card a week.  On Valentines’ Day, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.  Since February, there  have been surgeries, weeks and weeks of chemotherapy, and now daily radiation treatments.  During that time, in addition to the side effects of therapy, I dealt with an ulcer, kidney issues, pneumonia, the dog-napping of Quinn (my beloved goldendoodle), and my father’s passing.  I stopped making cards, except for my weekly contribution to The Paper Players, in June.  I literally reached a point in chemo that I couldn’t move, let alone find the energy to sit in my craft room.  I hoped that the will and energy would return, and that I would want to make cards again.  Now with only 13(!) radiation treatments to go… I am back.  I am starting with my favorite challenges and I will see how it goes over the next few weeks.  Thanks for listening.

Given my story, I hope you better understand my card.  I am healing and I am fighting… with every hope that all will be good.

Elizabeth, your card is perfect! Thank you for sharing your story. I’m so sorry you’re having to go through all this – not just the cancer but everything else that’s been piled on top of you. You are clearly an incredibly strong and amazing woman (even if there were times you might not have felt that way). My mom had surgery, chemo and radiation following an ovarian cancer diagnosis a few years ago. It’s a long, hard road. I’ll be thinking of you and cheering you on.

  2. Joanne James says:

Elizabeth you have had so much to battle this year and yet you have fought on with courage and determination – you bring a whole new meaning to the words ‘fight like a girl’. I for one wish I had as much strength as you – this card sums up your journey and I for one hope that you are turning a corner in more ways than one – sending you a hug today! xxx
